Class of 2017 Commencement Highlights

Lima Central Catholic held its 61st annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday evening, May 13, in the Msgr. Edward C. Herr Gymnasium. The sixty-seven graduates and their guests were addressed by Salutatorian Atticus Williams and Valedictorian Madison Stolly. Atticus is planning to major in Business at The Ohio State University and Madison is headed to the University of Findlay to study Physical Therapy and play on the Oiler basketball team.

Sixty-one of the graduates are planning to continue their education at 25 different post-secondary institutions. While most will attend colleges or universities in Ohio, several graduates will venture out of state to institutions such as West Virginia University, Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, Bradley University, University of Washington, Manchester University and the University of Kentucky. One graduate has enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and one plans to participate in the ROTC program at Miami University. Five of our foreign exchange students will return to their native countries, while three will continue their schooling in the United States.

The faculty and staff of LCC annually recognize graduating seniors who have excelled in the various disciplines over four years. The winners of the 2017 departmental awards were Madison Stolly (Science), Victoria Jiang (Math), Shannon Daley (English), Atticus Williams (Social Studies), Alexis Ray (Spanish), Alexis Garlock (French), Thomas Williams (Business), Caleb McDonald (Technology), Jaysen Boyles (Art), Zoe Flowers (Choir) and Nicholas Keller (Instrumental Music).

In addition to the academic awards, Shannon Daley and Greg Rohan were presented the prestigious Bishop’s Cross Award. The Bishop’s Cross is a great honor given to graduating seniors in the Toledo Diocese who lead by example, are active in the pastoral life of their school and parishes, and are known for being persons of excellent character, integrity and service.

Alexis Garlock was announced the winner of the Catherine G. Quatman Student Award and Mr. Edmund Misiakiewicz was named the Catherine G. Quatman Faculty Award recipient in recognition of their passion for the mission of Lima Central Catholic and the Lima Community.

Msgr. Herr Scholarships were awarded to Alexis Ray and Caleb McDonald. These scholarships are given every year as a testament to the faith Fr. Herr had in the youth of today.
