LCC Athletic Project Tickets: This year’s Athletic Field Project fundraiser is underway so it’s time to purchase your Athletic Project tickets.  This effort has been going on for over 30 years and it has allowed the development and maintenance of most of the fields and grounds around LCC.  The entire LCC community, and not just the athletes, benefit from this effort.  How would the school look if the grass around the school wasn’t mowed and weeds trimmed? Could the athletes practice on fields that weren’t mowed or maintained?  Could the games be played without lines on the field?  Where would the band practice?  Funds from this are also used to take care for the grounds around LCC.

Could you imaging if:
·        We didn’t have athletic fields to practice on
·        The grass on the soccer, baseball fields, softball fields, football fields, etc. was not mowed
·        The fields have bare areas because we didn’t have funds to seed or fertilizer
·        Weeds over took the athletic field area
·        Garbage cans overflowing with trash on the ground
·        We did not have water or sprinkling systems to water the grass
·        The Grass in front and around the school wasn’t mowed

The above are just a few things that we often take for granted, but these things are just a few of the things that the Athletic project provides.  This funds the necessary labor and equipment needed to maintain the various athletic fields and the grounds around the school.  On top of this, our needs continue to grow with the development of baseball field and practice soccer fields.  Everyone with a child in school or enjoy the watching the various sports benefit from this project.

Over the past few years, the support for this project has started to decline. Part of that is the many demands for our money these days, but it is important to realize that without these funds other efforts will need developed to meet the maintenance needs of the athletic fields and school grounds.  This fund raiser has been extremely successful in the past due to the loyalty and dedication of many past volunteers.   The format of the ticket is that approximately half the proceeds are given away as prizes as the tickets are drawn each month.

Many of you have likely received a ticket in the mail.  Some folks will probably receive more than one ticket, especially if you have kids in fall sports.  If you end up with more than one ticket, please try to purchase one and sell the other one.  Also, if you think you can sell additional tickets, please contact Tim Clark or Ron Williams.

The annual kick-off party for this event is set for Friday, November 19.

Concession Workers:  Lynnae and the LCC Athletics Boosters would like to thank the following people for working concess at the home game against Crestview Friday night: Denise Schultz, Val O'Dowd, Bill and Kathy Stolly, Peggy Snider, Karen Brenner, Kriss Reynolds, Dave Watkins and Jeannie Bourk.  I hope I didn't forget anyone, please let me know if I did so that you can receive the thanks you so rightly deserve.  A special thank you to Dave and Lisa Sodders who pop the popcorn all evening (both last year and so far this year).  The popcorn job is an especially difficult job to do and they do a wonderful job of keeping us supplied with enough popcorn to make our customers happy, all while having a wonderful attitude doing it.  If you see any of these people, please thank them for volunteering their time to help fund athletics at LCC.

Also, please consider helping out in concessions if you are approached to work.  It really is a lot of fun.  The success of concessions totally depends of our volunteers-we could NOT pull off what we do in there if we didn't have people to help us work it. ALL the proceeds earned from concessions goes to fund athletics at LCC.  Approx. 75-80% (that amount does not include Jr High students, so it actually could be higher) of the total student population plays one or more sports during the school year. So, concessions affects close to everyone!

Lastly, incase you haven't noticed, a familiar face is missing from the concessions stand this year: April Tschuor.  After several years of her tireless volunteering and the graduation of her last (don't cry April) child from LCC, she decided to "retire" and let someone else carry on in her place.  Whoever tries to take her place will have big shoes to fill as April gave endlessly of her time and energy to make concessions successful. Please join me in thanking April for her dedication to LCC when you see her at a game as she is still a T-BIRD fan.  "Thank you April, enjoy your spare time".

Lynnae Gandy
